Curser Not Showing the Space in Word Until Typing Again

Cursor doesn't move between words.

Hash out the give-and-take processor

Cursor doesn't motion between words.

When I outset a new file, in that location are no problems. Notwithstanding, I often run across an issue where I suddenly realize that the cursor doesn't move whenever I press the infinite bar. The space registers, though, because when I type the side by side word there is a space between them. I'll demonstrate below using "&" to represent the cursor.

Typically, if you lot type a word and press the infinite bar, y'all see this - Hi &

When I do the same, even so, I see this - Hello&

What causes this and how can I fix it? Thanks much in advance.

Can you upload a sample file (run across: How to attach a document hither)? This is sometimes the case at the end of a line (wrapping).

This happens at the finish of a line--where the side by side word volition/may wrap to the side by side line--correct?

If then, this is the normal behavior. Merely type a space and starting time the next word, Author will handle it properly, even though it looks odd.

Tried the insert key (several times), and in that location was no change. But no, it's not a line-wrap issue, because it happens betwixt every word, not just at the terminate of the line. It's more annoying than an actual issue, but it does make it harder for me to write when I have to accept several breaks in between (which is usually the case with a v year old haha) considering I start typing again and a few of my words run together. I will attempt to put up a sample momentarily.

I have the aforementioned problem. I don't think it will do any expert to upload a sample because information technology is only a problem when viewing information technology on screen, and not as a finished product. Ronin explained the problem pretty well.

Hither is another example using the @ in place of the cursor (flashing vertical black line).
typing "openoffice," so <space> fifteen times yields:
openoffice@
typing "openoffice," and so <infinite> fifteen times, and so "a" yields:
openoffice a@

In 3.0.ane its under Tools / AutoCorrect / Options Tab, but information technology didn't resolve the issue.

Well-nigh certainly this is to practise with the Insert cardinal, which toggles between Insert and overstrike. 1 does not advance the cursor using the Spacebar as Ronin suggested in the first mail service in this thread; that inserts a infinite. To advance the cursor use the arrow keys.

This sounds stupid simply are you lot sure there'south no space? You may have the Autocorrect opton of ignoring double spaces checked.

I have seen this problem besides specially as my certificate gets larger. I take been transcribing oral histories and noticed that the cursor volition behave in the same way every bit not displaying a space until I start typing. I think maybe it'south a memory issue. Information technology doesn't happen on smaller docs and information technology seems to starting time happening on a document the more I use it.

What size is your document?

Edit: Have you adjusted retentivity allocations in the /Tools / Options section (different path for Macs. Deplorable, I don't know information technology offhand). The default retention allocations are conservative in terms of memory on modern machines.

It's only 38K. I just inverse the retentiveness setting for Open up Part to 150 megs instead of 10. Is there some other place to adjust the memory other than in the options carte du jour?

No, in that location isn't. Likewise, reduce the Disengage levels on the same folio (defaults to 100 if I remember correctly). I propose ten is nearly equally many as one can retrieve. If you lot are using graphics you may besides fiddle with the graphics settings.

Your paragraphs are terminated by pressing Enter (Newline) (correct method) rather than by Shift Enter?

Edit: Is your output screen of infrequent width (how-do-you-do-res, broad screen?)

It'southward not really in the paragraphs just in every sentence. Aye, paragraphs are returned using the ENTER key. (Really I never heard of the Shift+Enter method) My monitor is gear up at 1650X1080. It's by no ways a bargain breaker for me, it would exist nice to know what is going on with it though in example others are having a similar consequence.

I use similar width monitor with no problems; I asked virtually monitor width as there were reports of problems with OOo and very large widths. Ane last thought: on the Condition Bar (bottom line of screen) merely to left of middle you lot should meet a box saying INSRT or OVER. If y'all click on that it should change from i to the other. Try both to meet if it cures your problem.

Edit: Also worth checking that you have the latest drivers for your video card and for your screen. In both cases look at the manufacturer'southward site under Support or Download.

I started having the same problem this morning, and spent all 24-hour interval trying to make information technology stop. I was almost ready to dig out my Wordperfect software to install on my laptop, only I fixed it past downloading a newer version of Open Office. Now it works fine, and I tin can go dorsum to writing my document without all the stress that comes from wondering whether or not I pushed the space bar. I couldn't find a unmarried reasonable solution on whatsoever of these forums, so I thought I'd let y'all all know how to actually fix information technology.

I had this effect, turned on the paragraph marks and discovered a page section suspension accidentally inserted, which somehow forces the cursor to remain next to the previous give-and-take fifty-fifty after hitting the space bar, until you starting time tying the adjacent word. hope this helps someone

I find it particularly useful to make all page breaks brandish equally a cherry-red line - Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Appearance > Text Document > Section boundaries > Page break.

Check folio breaks. I hit enter between the continuous page break and what I was typing and the infinite bar/cursor went back to normal.

I recently started having this issue with MS Word - I know this isn't the right place for information technology. But perhaps it's the same weird upshot.

MS Discussion, ctrl+shft+8, turns on showing the Formatting marks. I did this, hit the insert key a couple times, and then turned off formatting marks and information technology worked.

About a week ago, Discussion started registering the space but non visually displaying a space had been placed. It'southward a huge pain when trying to write a newspaper.

Good luck.

laminnick - doing a search for:
microsoft word doesn't show space
Yields some results. The first one says its maybe something to do with section breaks - something also mentioned higher up.

If the answer isn't at that place so at that place are several forums for Word
